Denmark’s centre-left has won the general election and put an end to a decade opposition. She has become Denmark’s first woman prime minister.

In Denmark’s 179-seat parliament, the centre-left party has won 89 seats against 86 seats for centre-right party and the anti-immigrant People’s party. Social Democrat leader Ms Thorning-Schmidt has won a narrow majority.

Ms Thorning-Schmidt expreesed her happiness and said “We did it… today we’ve written history”.

The main issue of the election is well-being of the national finances.

She promised to create solutions about tax rises and increased public spending. She started to take action with an unusual plan suggesting everyone work 12 minutes more per day. These extra minutes become one hour at the end of a week and an extra hour of each week would help economical growth.

The economic crisis starting in 2008 has produced deficits and even local banks have been badly affected and nine of local banks were taken over by the state.
