By preventing drug resistance in cancer cells, it might be possible to strength the drugs used in cancer treatment.

A study in Science Translational Medicine demonsrated a chemical reaction to drugs and this reaction is considered as resistance.

A group of researchers were surveying the cancer drug cetuximab that is used to treat in some kind of cancers such as head, neck and lung cancers. This drug aims a protein called EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) which helps to spread cancer tumour.

In this case, tumours containing EGFR have one more different proteion  ERBB2 and continious to spread. According to experts, ERBB2 activates a way that is not blocked by cetuximab. ERBB2 is not affected by cetuximab. However, there might be other ways that cancers develop resistance against the drugs. Because some patients’ tumours can be resistant and it is a big challenge to understand the reason

This study is a good example of how researchers are revealing the cancer cells, therefore, research like this creates tremendous optimism on patients.
