A month after the fall of Hosni Mubarak, Bouthaina Kamel anounced a proposal to be president of Egypt. She stated “At that moment, I thought we shouldn’t just be saying that, we should be putting it into practice.”
One month later, she declared herself to be the first female presidential candidate for elections, elections will be held next year.
Kamel is a television presenter and political campaigner. She gave up her job on state television. She was a newsreader but she did not believe the news she was reading.
Although the date of the election is not certain, Kamel has started to tour the country to reach the people. She implies they are forgotten by the political elite of Cairo. She describes herself as a social democrat and she listens to questions of minorities.
According to the stereotype of Egyptians, Egyptian people do not have tendency to vote for a woman in elections, but she told that ‘people will vote for someone who can help them and they accept me’
She also asserts that only a political revolution is not enough, a social revolution is also necessary for Egypt.
